LO: To use dictionaries to clarify meanings of words

This is a new topic all about the epic Anglo-Saxon poem ‘Beowulf’.

‘Beowulf’ is a heroic, epic poem written in narrative form.  It was written 1000 years ago (between 8th and 11th century) and is thought to be the oldest surviving poem and one of the most important works of Old English Literature.

Listen to the poem on this website and follow it on the PDF.

https://qarrtsiluni.com/2011/04/12/beowulf-a-retelling-with-children-in-mind/

Choose either 4, 6 or 8 of the words from the poem to look up in a dictionary.  The words are at the end of the poem.

Write the word and its meaning neatly on paper or in your remote education book.

Watch the first episode of the story on this website and compare it to the poem you listened to.
