Year 6 English Home Learning Week beginning 8th June

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 2:59pm

WB: 8TH June Overview

Hi year 6,

Thank you for all working so hard on your English home learning. You are all trying your best in these strange and difficult times.  This week you will be learning about active and passive voice and how we can make our writing formal or informal. This follows on nicely from the subjunctive form you learnt last week.

Further details of activities and resources are attached for each day.

Parents - You may find it easier to print all the pages (so you have it all together) but if you want to save on printing, each day references the pages which may require printing.

Monday

Aim: Consider the differences between formal and informal language, and identify examples of both in writing.

Today you will read some famous author profiles. We are sure you will have read books by at least one of the authors (even if it was when you were younger).

Then, revise how language can be formal and informal using the PowerPoint to help you (attached) or the link to a video below. Were the author profiles formal or informal?

Finally, can you write an informal ‘About Me’ profile?

Tuesday

Aim: Revise active and passive voice

Yesterday, you started to learn about how language can be formal or informal. Read the ‘Naughty Dog Blog’ and identify the informal features. Once you have completed the activity revise the difference between active and passive voice using the PowerPoint presentation (attached) and the video links below. Can you complete the active and passive worksheet?

Wednesday

Aim: Revise the use of active and passive voice and apply to writing.

Do you think dogs can be naughty? Well today you will read a blog which lists 10 mischievous things dogs get up to. You will then re-write one of the paragraphs in the blog to sound formal, changing the active voice to passive.

 Thursday

Aim: Identifying clauses, phrases, co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions.

Today you will read another blog post but this time it is about Lizzie Greenwood and her adventures in Antarctica.

After, you will revise your knowledge on clauses and conjunctions. There is a PowerPoint (attached)  to help you.

Pages to print: 5 and 6.

Friday

Aim: Identifying clauses, phrases, co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions and then use these in own writing.

Today you have the opportunity to research a place you would love to visit anywhere in the world! You will then write a blog about this place. Don't forget those conjunctions.
