Y6 English WB 22nd June

Hi Year 6,

We are missing you lots! If you are learning from home this week, we have planned some great English work which involves you watching dancing and judging it! If you are a fan of strictly or Just Dance, you will enjoy Monday’s work. If you are more of a football fan, Tuesdays work is for you.

Later in the week, you will be reading lots of different poems and revising your poetry terminology before writing poems of your own.

Monday 22nd June

Aim: Reading informal explanations. Annotating. Preparing spoken exclamations.     

Today you will read transcripts of television judges explaining their decisions. You will highlight and annotate the transcripts and then prepare your own explanations in a similar style.  

Tuesday 23rd June

Aim: Reading a more formal explanation. Revising adverbials and conjunctions.  Writing an explanation.  

What can you remember about conjunctions and adverbials? How do they help cohesion? Have a look at the PowerPoint attached to refresh your memory. Can you read the explanation, identify the features and then write your explanation to explain the success of a person?

Wednesday 24th June

Aim:  Reading the poems: ‘The Language of Cat’ and ‘Russian Doll’. Writing about the poems, using features of poetic language.

Today you will read and listen to two amazingly powerful poems by Rachel Rooney. You will annotate these, using a set of poetic features and technical terms. Can you write a paragraph about one of them?

Thursday 25th June

Aim: Reading a rap poem and listening to performances. Identifying features and writing a new verse in the same style.

Can your Gran rap? Today you will read a poem which asks just this question. Listen to the online performance too. Can you annotate the poem, using the poetic features from yesterday? Can you write new verses in the same style?

Friday 26th June

Aim: Reading a poem by Roger McGough. Writing a new poem along the same lines but from own experiences.

Today you will read the ‘The Sound Collector’. Make notes about sounds you can hear in your house. Can you follow the instructions to write a new poem based on the original?
