Y6 English WB 15th June

Date: 12th Jun 2020 @ 1:21pm

Hi Year 6,

If you are learning from home this week, you will be reading a story called ‘Eric’ which will provoke lots of questions and get you thinking. Later in the week, you will be adapting one of Roald Dahl’s revolting rhymes.

Monday 15th

Aim: Reading an extraordinary story. Empathising. Responding to a story.

Today you will read the story ‘Eric’. You will think and write about a time when they felt like an outsider. Then you will listen and watch the whole story and write answers to open-ended questions.

Tuesday 16th

Aim: Imagining a character’s response. Practising pronouns and determiners.

Can you remember what pronouns and determiners are? Don’t worry if not, because you will be revising them today using the PowerPoint (attached) and videos. Pronouns and determiners are great for aiding with cohesion and avoiding repetition. You will then practise using pronouns and determiners and write about a day out for Eric.

Wednesday 17th

Aim: Reading the end of a story. Speculating. Writing a letter. Reading aloud.

Children read the ending of the story and answer some speculative questions. They write a letter to Eric and practise reading the story aloud.

Thursday 18th & Friday 19th

Aim: Reading a poem. Practising expanding noun phrases. Writing a story.

I’m sure you all know the fairy tale ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’. Today you will hear the revolting rhyme Roald Dahl wrote adapting this classic fairy tale. Once you have read the text you will revise expanded noun phrases. If you access this PowerPoint, you can hear voice-over teaching explaining different ways of creating noun phrases and how these can change perceptions.

Can you write an adapted version of Jack and the Bean Stalk using Roald Dahl’s revolting rhyme? Don’t forget those expanded noun phrases.
