Lesson 1 – LO: identify and discuss poetic conventions.

Task, read through the Power Point and try your Poetry Toolbox Task.

You then need to read through The Jaberwocky and underline

  • Rhyme
  • Onomatopoeia
  • Alliteration
  • Rhythm
  • Imagery
  • Personification

You could make a key and use different colours to show the different tools.

Lesson 2 – LO: to use poetic conventions.

What would the Jabberwocky look like?

Be as creative as you can.

Task - Draw the Jabberwocky.  Write a phrase or line with a simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia and personification around your drawing.

Lesson 3 – LO: To use portmanteau to create new words

The Jabberwocky poem has many new words which have been made by joining 2 words together. This technique of making up words is called portmanteau.

Task - Make 6 new words that might describe the Jabberwocky, by joining 2 words together.

E.g. ‘Cliky’

Clawed and spiky

Lesson 4 – LO: To create a nonsense poem

Task - Using your phrases of simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia and personification from Tuesday and your new words from yesterday, write your own nonsense poem about a new monster called ‘Scrilla’.  Write 4 verses, each with 4 lines. Repeat the first verse for the last verse.

E.g

The Scrilla bounded, brumping up brees

With jagged wings like razor blades
