year 4 - Home learning 11th May

Date: 10th May 2020 @ 1:15pm

Hi Year 4, it’s Miss Fee here. I hope you are all ok and staying safe!

This blog post includes a Maths, SPAG, P.E and Design and Technology task for you to be getting on with. Don’t forget you can still log onto TT Rockstars, Spelling Shed and MyMaths if you want any extra practice :)

I’m missing you all and hopefully see you all soon!

Maths Lesson 6

LO create and investigate symmetry.

Today we’re going to build on your knowledge of symmetry.

Remember:

A 2D shape is symmetrical if a line can be drawn through it so that either side of the line looks exactly the same.

The line is called a line of symmetry.

This is sometimes called a 'mirror line' or 'mirror symmetry', because if you put a mirror on the line, the reflection would show the whole shape.

• An isosceles triangle has 1 line of symmetry.

• A square has 4 lines of symmetry.

• A circle has unlimited lines of symmetry!

Read through the PowerPoint that I have uploaded to the blog, it will ask you some questions about symmetry along the way.

Once you have finished the PowerPoint, you can choose the sheet on symmetry that you would like to complete.

If you are not very confident start with the ‘Creating symmetry 1’ sheet.

If you a feeling a bit better choose a picture to complete from the ‘Creating symmetry 2’ sheet

Once you have completed these sheets, move onto the ‘Investigating symmetry’ sheet. This sheet has some challenging reasoning and problem solving questions about symmetry.

I have uploaded the answers to this sheet so you can check when you have finished.

SPAG

I have uploaded some SPAG challenge cards. These will give you the opportunity to practice lots of different SPAG features including conjunctions, prepositions, determiners and more! Work your way through them at your own pace. I have attached the answers for you to check when you have done!

I have attached some SPAG mats that may help you! Another thing you will need to know is that  Compound words are formed when two or more words are joined together to create a new word that has an entirely new meaning.

Wider Curriculum - P.E

Spell your name and see what exercises you have to do! If you have a name that you shorten, for example Benjamin to Ben, try and use your full name to make it more difficult. You could then maybe try spelling your middle name or last name!

Design & Technology
Our new topic is to create a Bug Hotel!

Read through the PowerPoint that I have attached and answer the questions as you go. It would be useful to write down any questions that you may have too!

When you have done that, I would like you to go outside and have a look at where mini beasts live – looking under stones, around trees.  What different ones can you find? Fill in the chart that I have attached.
