Hi Year 5,

This week’s English learning is all about the different experiences people are having during the Covid 19 pandemic. You will watch some videos, which are intended to be watched in 6 months time by the individuals who created them. How will life have changed in 6 months time? How has life changed in the last 6 months?

The NHS is working really hard to support our country through the pandemic. To finish the week you will read a special poem all about the NHS. Can you write your own similar poem?

 

Monday

Aim: Watching a video-message from the lockdown: a letter to myself in 6 months’ time. Revising formal and informal language. Noting ideas.     

What would you say to yourself in 6 months time? What questions would you ask yourself? Today you will make notes/plans on what you will include in your message to yourself.

You will also explore how language can be informal and formal using the the PowerPoint presentation to help you. There is voice-over teaching to help you with this.

Tuesday

Aim: Re-watching the video-message. Exploring the vocabulary of emotions. Creating and performing own messages.

People are experiencing lots of different emotions at the minute and this is because life has temporarily changed. Some days are great and then others are tough. Today you will watch the message from yesterday again and investigate vocabulary for emotions. You will write a script for your own message and perform it.  

Wednesday

Aim: Watching a different video-poem from the lockdown: Things to remember when this is over. Revising expanded noun-phrases and thinking about description.

Today you will watch a different message. You will practise expanding noun-phrases and writing descriptive sentences.  Check out the PowerPoint presentation to help you and the video link below.

Thursday

Aim: Analysing the video-poem. Planning, scripting and performing own messages. 

Re-watch yesterday’s message and annotate a transcript to show features of prose/poetry. Can you plan, write and perform your own script about memories?

Friday

Aim: Comparing readings of the poem. Looking at features of a playscript. Writing playscripts.

Today you will read a Michael Rosen poem about the NHS. Can you highlight nouns and verbs and then generate ideas for your own similar poems?

**PLEASE NOTE: The video used on Days 1 and 2 opens with the line, ‘Pity about the weight gain…’ so you may want to contextualise this and discuss it with your child / parents you can start the video at 13 secs to avoid this line.
