Hi Year 4, it’s Mrs Lowe and Mrs Waggott. How are you all? Keeping well and safe hopefully. This blog post includes a maths, reading, P.E and science task for you to do. Don’t forget you can still log onto TT Rockstars, and MyMaths if you want any extra practise J
We are really missing all of you and we will hopefully be seeing you all soon!
Maths
L.O To translate points on a grid
Today we are starting a new maths topic on translation. Translation is when a shape is moved a certain distance from its original position. Translation is when a shape slides from one place to another, without turning. Have a look at the first part of this video to help you understand what it is (up to 6:00 minutes):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4XXbuAmcQQ
To describe a translation, you have to say how many squares it has moved to the left or right, and how many squares it has moved up or down. The example above shows that Shape A has been translated 5 squares to the right and 3 up.
Either print out the coordinate’s sheet, or complete it on a piece of paper. First of all write the coordinates of each of the coloured dots, then translate them according to the instructions and write the new coordinates for each dot. There’s an extra challenge attached for those of you who are feeling confident with translations!

Science Teeth - Lesson 1 Why do we have teeth? What is their purpose? Have a look in a mirror, look at and feeling your own teeth. How many teeth have you got? How many new ones (permanent teeth)? How many baby teeth (milk teeth)? Can you count your total number of teeth? Why do we lose our milk teeth? Babies’ jaws are too small to hold all these teeth. Children have 20 teeth: 8 incisors, 4 canines and 8 molars Adults have 32 teeth including wisdom teeth. Babies Children/adult
Feel your teeth and guess what each type is designed for (its function or use). Go to website Consider how teeth are shaped for their purpose
L.O: To identify the different types of teeth in humans and their functions. 1) Using the models, either draw and colour code the different types of human teeth or use the model with teeth already drawn in to colour code them 2) Describe the function that each tooth has e.g. Incisors are used for biting and cutting food.
