Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 11:31am

Hi Year 4, it’s Miss Jagger here. I hope you are all ok and staying safe!

What have you been up to this week? We managed to complete a 1000 piece jigsaw which was all the Marvel characters, the Incredible Hulk was extremely hard to do…so many green pieces!

This blog post includes a maths, writing, P.E and science task for you to be getting on with. Don’t forget you can still log onto TT Rockstars, Spelling Shed and MyMaths if you want any extra practise J

I’m missing you all and hopefully see you all soon!

Maths

LO To classify and name triangles

Today we would like to investigate and find out about the different types of triangles. This lesson will include lots of sorting and there will be an extra challenge too.

Read through the PowerPoint that has been uploaded onto this blog, this will give you lots of details about the different types of triangles.  It will also challenge you on sorting triangles and answer ‘What am I’ questions.

You can also use the success criteria below to help you:

You can also visit the website below which has a great video explaining about the 4 different types of triangles.

Core Task – (word document uploaded to blog)

Cut out the triangles on the second sheet, sort them into their correct place. Are they an isosceles, equilateral, scalene or right-angle triangle?

Challenge – (word document uploaded to blog)

There are two reasoning questions on this document. Remember to give a reason why you have answered this was and try to explain yourself clearly and give examples if you can.

English

LO To use direct speech.

Today we would like you to practise using direct speech and write a conversation between two characters. The characters are ‘winter’ and ‘spring’ Use the image below to help you think of a conversation the two seasons might have. What could they talk about? Think about the changes in the weather. What types of events are celebrated in the two seasons?

  2. Capital letter to start your speech.
  3. The speech is punctuated before it is closed.
  4. If the reporting clause is at the start of your sentence, don’t forget your comma!
  5. New line = New Speaker
  6. Up-level the verb ‘said.

WAGOLL:

Winter questioned in a gravelly voice, “Do you not get hot with all the flowers blooming on you?”

“Of course I don’t, I love the way the flowers brighten my appearance and instantly make me feel happy,” replied spring joyfully.

Science

LO: To identify producers, predators and prey within a food chain.

A food chain shows how each living thing gets food, and how nutrients and energy are passed from creature to creature. Food chains begin with plant-life, and end with animal-life. Some animals eat plants, some animals eat other animals.

A simple food chain could start with grass (producer), which is eaten by a rabbit (consumer/prey), which is eaten by a fox (consumer/predator).

We would like you to visit the website below and work your way through the different challenges making food chains along the way.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbnnb9q

Make sure you click on the ‘How to play’ button and read the instructions before playing the game. There are some really interesting videos that you can watch!

Steps to Success

First, find a producer – a plant that makes its own food from sunlight.

Next, find a consumer that eats the producer.

Then, find another consumer that eats meat.

Top Tips:

  • A herbivore is an animal that only eats plants
  • An omnivore eats plants and animals
  • A carnivore only eats animals
  • An insectivore eats some animals such as insects and worms

Extra challenge

I have uploaded a document called ‘Food chain sorting cards’ onto this blog, print the cards out and make your own food chains.

Label the parts of your food chain with vocab such as:

  • Producers
  • Prey
  • Predator
  • Herbivore
  • Omnivore
  • Carnivore
  • Insectivore

We would love to see any of your own food chains that you have created so make sure you send them in. J
