Y4 English

Tuesday 03.11.20

LO: To sequence events in chronologically.

Watch clip:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/clips/zwbs34j

Make notes of what happens as you watch – there is no talking.

Does this make it harder to know what is happening?

Cut and rearrange the 5 different sentences to order the events correctly (Sequencing sentences PDF).

Look at the answers (Sequencing sentences answers PDF) – did you get it right?

Is this the same version of the story that you know?

How is it the same?  How is it different?

Wednesday 04.11.20

LO: To show how feelings can change in a story.

What kinds of feelings is Red having throughout the story?

Watch the clip again and list 5 different feelings she experiences.

Is she: excited, happy, sad, scared?

Complete the ‘Red’s emotion graph’ PDF by making a bar chart to show how brave or terrified she is feeling as the story progresses.

Look at your finished graph.

What are the highest and lowest points?

Using your information on teh graph, Write 2 sentences – 1 about Red being at her bravest, and the other about her at her most terrified.

Use the synonyms sheet to help you.

Eg. Red felt terror-stricken when she looked at her Grandma’s enormous sharp, shiny teeth.

*Challenge – can you use a simile to describe her feelings?

Thursday 05.11.20

LO: To understand different characters’ perspectives.

Watch the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ from the Wolf’s perspective:

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iz3pwnwF08w

What does the wolf say that makes him sound like a kind, lovable wolf instead of a big bad one?

Can you find 3 sentences from the text to turn into speech, telling us how nice the wolf is?

E.g. “I’m a neat worker, completely trustworthy.”

Make sure you use the correct speech punctuation.

See ‘Speech-punctuation’ PDF if you need a reminder.

Friday 06.1120

LO: To know the features of a newspaper report.

Read through the Newspaper writing tips Power point.

Read the ‘Lottery Win’ article (Choose * or *** depending on how confident you feel) then tick off the features you find on the checklist PDF.

What is missing?   Can you add it in?

E.g. – A name for the newspaper.
