Monday 7th December

L.O – To plan creative writing

Today I would like you plan a piece of creative writing all about Santa`s naughty puppy, Bruno! You can use the character profile template that includes space for you to make notes that you are going to include in your final piece of writing.

In the template you can include information about:

  • Bruno`s appearance
  • Bruno`s personality
  • Bruno`s actions in the story (what naughty things he does!)
  • Changes that Bruno undergoes throughout the story (does he become well behaved?)

It also includes space for you to draw a sketch of what Bruno looks like!

Make sure you use the adjective, verb and character trait mats to help you!

Tuesday 8th December

L.O – To write a creative story.

Today you are going to be writing your story about Bruno, Santa`s naughty puppy! Make sure you use your plan from yesterday!

LO: To sort vocabulary according to number of syllables

Syllables are beats in a word.

Syllables are how many unbroken vowel sounds there are in a word.

Read through and follow the instructions on the ‘Syllables PP’.

Sort your Christmas vocabulary on the ‘Christmas vocab’ pdf, according to the number of syllables each word has.  Stick them in the correct columns on the ‘Sorting Grid’pdf. There is a scaffolded version available.

Thursday 10th December

LO: To analyse Haiku poems

Haiku poems come from Japan.

They have only three lines.

They are usually written about seasons or nature.

They have a set number of syllables on each line.

Complete the ‘Haiku Analysis’ pdf.

How many syllables are on each line in the first 2 poems?

Which words can you add to the third and fourth poems?

Friday 11th December

LO: To write a haiku

Examples of Christmas and winter haiku poems:

Jesus Christ was born

A special day for Christians

God's son Jesus Christ

Christmas lights twinkling

Decorations everywhere

Excited children

Colourful presents

Santa visits every house

Children can't sleep

Write your own haiku poem about Christmas or winter.

Success Criteria

My poem has three lines

My first line has five syllables

My middle line has seven syllables

My last line has five syllables

My haiku paints a picture of Christmas in the reader’s mind.

Use the Christmas vocab sheet to help you think of some good words to use.
